Spontaneous Expansion of the Church Post 1
As I sat this afternoon and read a little bit of this book by Roland Allen I was simply amazed as to the similarities in his thought as he revised the book in the 1920’s and my stream of thought today.
In the introduction I was working overtime underlining and digesting phrases like “if the church is to be indigenous it must spring up in the soil from the very first seeds planted; or
pay heed rather to the essential principles than to the particular detail.
or
Spontaneous expansion must be free: it cannot be under our control; and consequently it is utterly vain to say, as I constantly hear men say, that we desire to see spontaneous expansion, and yet must maintain our control. If we want to see spontaneous expansion we must establish native churches free from our control.
or
If we establish missions rather than churches, two evil consequences which we now see in greater or less degree everywhere, sterility and antagonism, inevitably arise.
