Remembering Paris

My parents came to visit this past weekend and it got me to thinking about the past several years here in KC and the things I miss in Paris TN.

1. I miss being close to family, but now appreciate the special bond we have as we are apart.

2. I miss friends like Steve who took me deer hunting for the first time behind the house, but am grateful for the skills he imparted to me that I can share with others.

3. I miss The World’s Biggest Fish Fry in April and Octoberfest at the Catholic Church in the fall, but love the festivals and new traditions here in KC.

4. I miss the people at our old church and cherish the memories of early ministry, but thank them and those experiences for today and tomorrow.

5. I miss the fact that nobody here in KC asks “who my daddy is” so they can find out if they know me or not, but like the fact that I can walk into a Walmart and make it out without bumping into 14 people I know.

6. I miss the four wheelers that we used to ride almost daily, but now enjoy the bike rides I get to take with my kids around a neighborhood that has sidewalks.

7.  I miss my pickup truck that we sold when we moved here. There is no other good side to that one.

8. I miss the murky waters of the Kentucky Lake I used to swim, fish, and knee board in, but love the fact that I have really good friends here in KC to all sorts of interesting things with.

9. I miss the 28 acres we had behind our house, but am soooo glad to have only a push mover that takes me less than 45 minutes to cut the grass now.

10. Finally I miss the jokes at the expense of those from Benton Co. It’s just not the same teasing about those on the “Kansas side”. Nobody here has coon tails hanging from their car antennas, 110v air conditioners hanging on the outside of their conversion vans, and toilet flower pots in their front yards. Nobody.
